Avos 1:5 – Yossei the son of Yochanan of Jerusalem would say: Let your home be wide open, and let the poor be members of your household. And do not engage in excessive conversation with a woman. This is said even regarding one’s own wife–how much more so regarding the wife of another. Hence, the sages said: One who excessively converses with a woman causes evil to himself, neglects the study of Torah, and, in the end, inherits purgatory.

Hello Rabbi Mitterhoff,
Thank you so much for providing these podcasts—I listen to them all day while I work.
I wanted to point out, though, that for some families, especially Ba’alei Tshuva, it is the wife who is leading the charge spiritually. Thank Gd my job allows me to listen to Torah learning all day, whereas my husband’s is much less flexible. Most of his learning is in tandem with me and the kids, and it is my responsibility to transmit to him the sweetness that, for now, he is missing as he works to be in a better position to learn himself. Inspiring him every day is a big responsibility, and I appreciate all the help that you and globalyeshiva.com provide.
Thank you again.
